DJs, Musicians, and Artists I dig |
|
Clay's Painted Bodies |
Visual artist Clay Chollar is a Santa Cruz artist that paints some seriously mind-bending psychedelic art. He's probably most well-known for airbrushing people's bodies with reality warping designs, but that's just one aspect of what this truly visionary artist does. |
Beats Without Borders |
I only know one quarter of this crew, Adrian and I used to have a weekly doing dub music in Olympia, WA years ago called "Family Roots". We also both used to dj on KAOS, 89.3 FM at Evergreen. He does some really brilliant dub-tinged world music. |
Mudd Up! |
This is a site curated By DJ /rupture, one of my favorite djs. He mixes like a madman and has a heavy appreciation for dancehall, noise, and middle-eastern beats. This is not your regularly scheduled programming. |
The Vienna Vegetable Orchestra |
The Vienna Vegetable Orchestra is pretty much what it sounds like. A group of musician's who play music entirely on instruments made from vegetables. In typical Austrian symphonic style, some of their songs are a tad severe, but I find them rather entertaining. They even do a Kraftwerk cover. Not to be confused with the Vienna Sausage Choir. |
Music for you to listen to |
|
Ezeskankin Mitapes |
An archive of mixtapes from '99 and before with a focus on house and techno from the glory days of the San Francisco scene. All for you to download as mp3s for free. |
Goodbeats Podcast |
A podcast with two to six new DJ mixes every week. They've got breaks, house, electro, techno and more. Even some chillout stuff! |
Online Record Shops |
|
DanceRecords.com |
A fairly good place to get dance records online. They have a huge selection and ship quickly. |
Dusty Groove America |
These guys have one of the best selections of Jazz, Funk, Soul, R&B, and Brazilian music out there. Also, great dance music in the same vein that nobody else seems to have. |
360 Vinyl |
These guys are out of Portland and are extremely helpful and pleasant and they know their stuff as far as hip-hop and downtempo goes. My one beef is that you can't filter out stuff that is not in stock and so you get all excited about finding that special record only to not be able to add it to your cart. That and the search function on their site is moronic. |
Turntable Lab |
I go to these guys for all of my Latin B-boy and downtempo sounding stuff. They are in New York so it takes forever to get records to the West Coast, but often it's quite worth it. |
GEMM |
This is one place I go for ultra hard to find records. People can list records for any price they want so the asking prices are sometimes completely unreasonable, but if you can't find it anywhere else this is a good place to look. |
Amusing Time Wasters |
|
I Can Has Cheez Burger? |
Funny pictures of cats and ocassionally other animals with silly captions. I find this sort of thing endlessly amusing and it often makes me crack up out loud. Then all of my co-workers stare at me like I'm deranged. Now you can share the joy of having people think you're deranged. |
Stuff on my cat |
This site has loads of pictures of cats with random stuff on them. Stuff + cats = awesome. |
www.cs.tlu.ee/~meelis /catmusic/ |
More funny cat stuff. If your browser doesn't render animated .gifs this page will make no sense. |
Engrish.com |
Lost in translation. Pictures of brutally mistranslated english, mostly from Asia. |
